The Economists Top 40 is a list of the best publishing economists in the Netherlands. The list is based on all peer-reviewed published articles by Dutch economists between January 2015 and December 2019. They also look at the impact of the published articles. The number of publications rose by no less than 11 percent this year, placing VU Amsterdam in third place of all Dutch universities. We have gone from 709 publications to 785. Our impact score has also improved compared to last year: from 0.79 to 0.84.
But there is more good news, because VU economist Albert Menkveld has risen to the first place this year - from fourteenth place last year. Menkveld conducts research into high-frequency trading, among other things, and published no fewer than three top publications in 2019. Newcomer from VU Amsterdam in the list is spatial economist Hans Koster, who ranks 24th place. A total of nine VU economists are on the list, one more than last year:
Albert Menkveld (1)
Siem Jan Koopman (8)
Bas van der Klaauw (9)
André Lucas (10)
Pieter Gautier (12)
Jos van Ommeren (18)
Utz Weitzel (22)
Hans Koster (24)
Erik Verhoef (30)
We congratulate everyone with this great achievement! The full list of economists and their rankings can be found on the ESB website.
